The areas of Kondhwa, Lullanagar, Fatima Nagar and
Wanowrie have been one of Pune’s recently developed
residential areas. Salunke Vihar, one of the oldest
residential colonies around is a defense colony.
NIBM, Wanowrie is considered an exclusive enclave
for the elite with Utopia, Clover Village and a
few others considered to be one of the best in Pune.
Fatima Nagar, a town older than it’s neighbours,
is built around St. Patrick’s Church.
Wanowrie
is a part of the Pune Cantonment with huge
Army medical set-ups here like the Armed
Forces Medical College (AFMC) and the Command
Hospital and the Artificial Limb Center.
It also holds famous Shinde’s Chatri Temple.
Hadapsar, is an industrial town as well and spreads
along the Pune-Sholapur road with A.S.P.T (Army
School of Physical Training) and industries like
Tata Honeywell and Bharat Forge. Salisbury Park,
is another residential area with some houses from
the British Era. Pune’s biggest residential
area is in Salisbury Park, called Mira Society.
Connectivity:
All these areas lie towards the South -
Eastern part of Pune. City buses go through
Fatima Nagar and Wanowrie to Salunke Vihar
and Kondhwa, to the Kondhwa Stand.
Few buses to Hadapsar also go through these areas.
A number of six-seaters and buses from here ply
to station and back and the frequency is high. Salisbury
park does not have many buses there, but many leave
you till the Main Road. Auto-rickshaws ply to all
these parts easily but during the nights, they may
not oblige.
STD/ISD/FAX are again very easily available and
accessible here. A number of Cyber cafes have come
up in Fatima Nagar, Kondhwa and Wanowrie.
Highlights: Hadapsar has a number of Industries
and residences in it. It stretches on Pune-Sholapur
Road to some distance. Urli Kanchan comes up after
that. St. Patrick’s church in Fatima Nagar
is one of the biggest churches in Pune and has
educational institutions under it. Wanowrie excluding
its fine residential complexes has AFMC, the
Armed Forces Medical College and Command Hospital,
hence a large number of defense personal also
reside here. Sonia Gandhi’s two election
rallies in Pune were held in Wanowrie. Kondhwa
holds the National Institute of Bank Management
(N.I.B.M.), a very prominent landmark here. Shinde’s
Chatri in Wanowrie is a very famous temple in
Pune.
Must Sees: Shinde’s Chatri, one of
Pune’s famous temples is a memorial dedicated
to the Maratha Nobleman Mahadji Schindia. Its architectural
skill is its prime attraction. The Hadapsar Flying
Club is another popular place and is probably the
only flying club in Pune.
